When I was a little girl,
I'd say I was too scared of the dark,
And say there were monsters under my bed
So I could sleep in my mother's arms.
When I was a little girl,
I'd say I was too tired to eat,
I'd lie about my 'tiresome' day:
While my mother would feed. When I was a little girl,
I'd say I couldn't tie my hair
And whilst my mother would braid it up
I'd watch her;
I'd stare.
When I was a little girl,
I'd cry to wear mum's heels,
I'd try to fit in her shoes
And watch my toe-skin peel.
I was a little girl then
Because I wasn't actually apprehensive of the dark;
I wasn't tired, not a bit;
I knew to tie my hair,
And I'd love to wear my baby-shoes;
But all I'd do was care
for my mother.
But more than everything above
I'd lie, I'd cry, I'd die
for my mother's love.
